Lariam® is the trade name for the anti-malarial drug Mefloquine, manufactured by Hoffman-LaRoche. Mefloquine is also marketed under the name Mephaquine® by Mepha, and
Mefliam® by Cipla-Medpro. Mefloquine is used to prevent (and sometimes treat) malaria However, there is increasing documentation, from medical case reports, media reports and affected individuals
that Lariam has serious debilitating side-effects.
Lariam® users, which include Peace Corps volunteers, military personnel and travelers worldwide, have reported serious side-effects including: panic attacks, epileptic type
convulsions, headaches, visual and auditory hallucinations, sleeplessness, paranoia, psychotic episodes and suicide attempts and even homicidal rage. These side-effects can persist for months and
sometimes years after the last dose. Many users are unable to work or have normal social interactions.
